The 13th Annual Wiliwili Festival is set to take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Waikoloa Dry Forest Preserve.
Celebrating the significance of wiliwili trees in the lowland dry forest, the festival offers a unique opportunity to witness these beautiful trees in their natural environment.
The event will feature exhibitors showcasing activities and educational materials along the preserve access road.
At Hale Hana Hou within the preserve, attendees can participate in a native plant giveaway and seek expert advice on plant propagation, growing and care. Food, beverages and Waikoloa Dry Forest merchandise, including T-shirts with this year’s artwork, will be available for purchase.
Guided tours of the forest will be provided by Hawaii Forest &Trail every hour, allowing visitors to explore the preserve and learn about the unique ecosystem. Additionally, free workshops throughout the day cover topics such as native planting, seed germination, ti leaf lei making, and an update from Waikoloa Dry Forest staff.
Some workshops require registration, so attendees are encouraged to check online for more information.
Participants should be prepared for outdoor activities, including walking along gravel roads and uneven terrain on hiking trails. It is advisable to bring a refillable water bottle, sun protection and suitable footwear.
Golf-cart shuttles will be available between the parking area and the preserve’s front gate throughout the day, ensuring convenient access for all.
